Do you feel like there are too many others in your field of expertise doing what you’re doing?  Feeling flooded with everyone else in your space, and finding yourself comparing your business to theirs? Wondering if you’ll ever be successful or at least have your own stream of clients constantly flowing in?

You’re not alone. It happens all the time, it’s how you handle the ‘noise’ around you.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the emotions;

  • I’m not good enough
  • What have they got that I don’t
  • Why can’t I be as successful as them
  • No one will want or love what I have to offer
  • How am I ever going to be successful

Here are 6 ways you can stop feeling the comparisons to others and stay in your ‘A’ game.

Focus on you and your business

Don’t spend so much time watching what everyone else is doing. Focus on you, your business and what your clients needs. When you spend so much time watching other, you are in-fact taking away from your valuable time for your clients. If you use that time effectively, you would be creating more things they need from you with the potential to bring in more clients.

Remember your purpose

Remember why you created your business, and the purpose you aim to serve. Also remember, you are not them and your clients want you for YOU.

Like the movie Field of Dreams says ‘If you build it, they will come’.  Keep remembering your purpose for why you are doing what you’re doing and how it aligns to your core values.

Keep your purpose and vision close, and keep building. Because THEY will come.

Keep your balance

Some times you  can get so caught up in the hype of comparing yourself to others and therefore not allowing yourself time to breathe and step away from your business. You become exhausted and loose the moment you were once building.

Whilst you may feel this is clique, however when you are doing other things that are about you and bringing balance into your world, like yoga, spending time with family and friend, or doing your thing to switch off and recharge. It is often this time when your best business ideas come. Being recharged and clear minded, allows more room for creativity to flow.

Take it with a grain of salt

You do know that people will only share with you what they want you to know. A business competitor may say something like “I made $10,000 this month”, what they haven’t said is this is pre-tax and pre-expenses. You have walked away thinking they put $10,000 in their pocket but this isn’t the case. So, take whatever others, especially your competitors, tell you with a grain of salt.

It’s only natural you are drawn to our own

Starting your business, you feel the need and want to connect with other business owners in our field, to connect with likeminded. There is nothing wrong with that, but it’s equally important to keep a level of distance so you don’t allow yourself to get caught up in their world and miss or forget the importance of what you’re doing.  You can find likeminded colleagues in other industries.

Have the support of the like-minded people in your industry is important, but also allow yourself the room to expand to where your target audience are.

The world is a big beautiful place, there are millions of people out there and some of them are your ideal target audience just waiting to find you. Don’t hang out where all the others in your field are hanging go, look else where. Don’t be afraid to try some where new, or even some new way to connect with your audience.

Collaborating with complimentary businesses

Finding a business that compliments your business, and targets the same audience as you (but is not a competitor) is a great way to expand your audience and business.  Every step you take in your business is a new adventure and another way to grow you, as a person. You are constantly learning and growing, so don’t be afraid to give it a go.

Remembering your purpose is so importance to creating, growing and even glowing in your business. Be kind to yourself, take it one step at a time and enjoy the ride. Not everyone has the ability or even courage to run a business, so be proud of the journey you’re taking and don’t worry about what everyone is doing.
